States recognize and reward bilingual students

Dual-language programs have gained in popularity across the U.S. as employers seek bilingual, bicultural workers, and more parents view bilingualism as necessary for their children's success in a globalized world. Oregon, California, New Mexico, Washington, Illinois and Louisiana are among the states that are recognizing and rewarding bilingual education.

Growing International Latino Book Awards reflect booming market

This weekend, the American Library Association’s annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, congregated over 180 notable Latino authors for the 16th annual International Latino Book Awards (ILBA). This year the submissions increased dramatically, more that 1,800, a 41 percent increase over last year.

ALA annual conference starts today in Las Vegas and ARS is attending

Legendary literary agent Carmen Balcells partners with New York-based agency

Facing the prospect of a waning empire and no clear successor, Spanish agent Carmen Balcells, 83, announced last month that she had signed a letter of intent with the New York literary agent Andrew Wylie to form a new venture, the Balcells-Wylie agency. The outline of the deal remains unclear, and there is always a chance that Ms. Balcells could change her mind. The New York Times published this piece about her, the deal and the end of an era.
