Jacinto Benavente

A Spanish playwright and critic who was born in Madrid in 1866, Benavente first gained recognition with a series of women’s letters titled Cartas de mujeres (1893) and the comic play El nido ajeno (1894).

Pío Baroja

An acclaimed Spanish writer born in San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa, Spain) in 1872 and died in 1956. He came from a distinguished family of journalists and printers. His brother Ricardo was a painter, writer and engraver, and his nephew Julio Caro Baroja, son of his younger sister Carmen, was a well-known anthropologist.

Gustavo Adolfo Bécker

Gustavo Adolfo Claudio Domínguez Bastida (February 17, 1836 – December 22, 1870), better known as Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, he was a Spanish Romanticist poet and writer (mostly short stories), also a playwright, literary columnist, and talented in drawing.

Javier Azpeitia

A Spanish philosopher, writer and editor, Azpeitia was born in Madrid in 1962. He is the author of the novels 'Mesalina' ('Messalina') (1989), 'Quevedo' (1990), 'Hipnos' ('Hypnos') (1996; winner of the Hammett Prize for crime writing and adapted for the cinema by the director David Carreras), 'Ariadna en Naxos' ('Adriadne on Naxos') (2002) and 'Nadie me mata'.

Miguel Ángel Asturias, (born October 19, 1899, Guatemala City, Guatemala—died June 9, 1974, Madrid, Spain), Guatemalan poet, novelist, and diplomat, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1967 and the Soviet Union’s Lenin Peace Prize in 1966.
