Eddie Redmayne: “I’m willing to learn Spanish in the future”

Eddie Redmayne is a very well read English actor and Oscar winner for his amazing interpretation in the movie The Theory of Everything. He plays Stephen Hawking, the brilliant physicist who was afflicted with Lou Gehrig’s disease in his 20s, was given two years to live, became a husband and father, and is now 72. Redmayne, 33, who in recent years has starred in films as diverse as Les Miserables and My Week with Marilyn, both movies based on books that he read. We spoke with Redmayne in New York about his role in The Theory of Everything and his passion for reading.

Claire Danes: “I would love to keep learning and perfecting my Spanish”

When we last checked in on Claire Danes’s brilliant, bipolar agent Carrie Mathison in the T.V. series Homeland, she was watching in despair as her on-off lover Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) was hanged in front of a jeering mob in a square in Tehran. As Mathison, pregnant with her lover’s child, this new season promises to come back to the origins of the show , when it was one of the best on television. We had the opportunity to talk with Claire Danes a great actress who is fluent in French and English and, as she confesses, also knows some bits of Spanish.

Christian Bale: “I do understand more Spanish than I speak. That’s the truth”

Christian Bale was parting the Red Sea as Moses in the Canary Islands, while at work filming Ridley’s Scott film Exodus. In a recent interview in Los Angeles, Bale said that audiences can expect a far cry from what Charlton Heston and Cecil B. DeMille delivered 60 years ago. As he explained, this is an intriguing piece, “because it's very few people that I've met that have actually read the Torah, the Pentateuch, the five books of Moses, all the way through,” Bale said. In a movie where violence is a protagonist, Bale said that Moses was not a man of any half measures whatsoever.

Colin Farrell: “Seville... what a city!”

When Irish actor Colin Farrell, 37, first arrived in America 14 years ago, he earned the respect of such A-list directors as Steven Spielberg and Terrence Malick. But at the same time he got a reputation for drinking and being a playboy, and as he explains in this interview being a father of two has changed his perspective and has emerged as one of the finest actors working today. He was heartbreaking as P. L. Travers’ alcoholic father in Saving Mr. Banks, and in Winter’s Tale, a sweeping love story about a man traveling a hundred years into the future to fulfill his destiny. With his little Spanish, he confesses to travel frequently to Spain as he is in love with the city of Seville.

Abbie Cornish: “I worked really hard on the nuances and the flavour of the Spanish language”

The Australian actress Abbie Cornish is releasing the indie drama The Girl, a movie that took her to Mexico for a few weeks. For Cornish, The Girl was a life changing experience and in our interview in the hotel Four Seasons we talked about how she came to be a part of this film, how easy she found this character to relate to, learning to speak in fluent Spanish and to love the Mexican culture. She also talked about the remake of Robocop where she co-stars with Gary Oldman.

Steve Carell is not shy, but very funny, to confess his vague knowledge of Spanish culture

In reality Steve Carell doesn’t look like his characters. He’s always beyond friendly and extremely giving with his time. He’s absolutely one of the nicest actors we’ve ever had the fortune to talk to. In his upcoming comedy, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Carell stars as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). In the hotel Paris in Vegas we had the opportunity to talk with Steve about his career, his vague knowledge of Spanish culture and how a star keeps his head on the shoulders.

Channing Tatum: “I did learn to speak Spanish and dance at quinceañeras”

Channing Tatum danced his way to stardom in 2006 with the movie Step Up, where he proved he's got the looks and the moves. After being discovered by a modeling scout on the streets of Miami, the southern stunner posed provocatively for Nautica and Abercrombie & Fitch. Then came his role as a delinquent turned dancer in Step Up, Since then he has been the star of titles as White House Down, The Eagle, Magic Mike. He is married to actress Jena Dewan-Tatum. In Los Angeles we had the opportunity to talk with Channing about his new dream of becoming a director.

Natalie Portman: “Spanish is one of the languages most useful in the world”

Natalie Portman is as renowned for her intelligence as she is for the movies she acts in. Not only has she famously turned down roles and missed premiers in order to focus on and further her studies, but she also works as a UN ambassador and is fluent in a number of languages including Hebrew, German, Japanese, Spanish and French. Natalie Portman has been known to be able to deliver a speech quite well in any of these languages. Celebrities like Natalie Portman are realizing how important it is to speak more than one language, as does the rest of the global population.

Chris Hemsworth: “ Give me another year and I will be speaking Spanish”

Less than two years ago, Chris Hemsworth was a barely known actor, struggling to make the jump from his native Australia to Hollywood. Today he is a major star thanks to movies like Thor, where he plays a superhero, and driving Formula 1 cars in Rush. Balanced and a hard working actor Hemsworth is married to the Spanish actress Elsa Pataky with whom he has a little girl called India. In a recent press event we had the chance to talk with this amazing Australian actor who is trying his best to learn and speak Spanish.

Charlie Sheen: “I wish I spoke more Spanish, I’m sure I can learn”

The always entertaining and candid Charlie Sheen, 46, is back on TV with his new sitcom Anger Management, a subject he knows something about. Clean and sober, he looks fresh and well dressed in black pants and a blue shirt, his skin and eyes clear. He’s in a relaxed mood as he addresses his life now, his experience with therapy and, of course, anger management. The son of Martin Sheen has roots and family in Spain and a bar in Mexico but he doesn’t speak Spanish fluently. In Los Angeles we talk to the actor who for the first time in his career is credited as Carlos Estevez in Robert’s Rodriguez movie Machete Kills.
