Carlos Monsivais is a writer and journalist who was born on May 4, 1938 in Mexico City.

Monsivais,  who studied economy and philosophy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, writes political opinion columns for leading Mexican daily El Universal and is considered an opinion leader among the country’s progressive sectors.

His works, some of which are written in an ironic tone, reveal his deep understanding of the origin and development of Mexican popular culture.

Monsivais is an author who is difficult to define since he explores in his writings many different areas of art, culture, counter-culture and politics.
