Synopsis
The legend states that “Nothing is truth, everything is permitted” were the last words of Hassan-I Sabbah, the mythical leader of the ancient and obscure sector of the Murderers. Writer William Burroughs became obsessed with this phrase, claiming it was a magic password. In the beginning of the 20th century, Burroughs continued viewing Sabbah as one of his mentors. His scandalous life and radical work had become a symbol for rebels and anarchists, eventually becoming one of the most ideological precursors in the punk movement. Then, the world surrendered before Nirvana, considering them to be the ultimate rock-and-roll band with Kurt Cobain, the prophet of a new generation, as their leader. Since the death of the singer, four photographs were found hidden between hundreds of pages of manuscript in which the deceased singer can be seen walking with Burroughs. Each one of these photos tell their own story but also their own mystery. They were taken in October 1993, when Cobain achieved his lifelong dream: to visit Burroughs, his biggest and most influential hero. Including artwork and rare photographs, this book takes you on a tour of an important part of the 20th century, focusing on the connection between Burroughs and Cobain while simultaneously investigating the relationship between music, art, and rebellion.
La leyenda cuenta que «Nada es verdad, todo está permitido» fueron las últimas palabras que pronunció antes morir Hassan-i Sabbah, mítico líder de la antigua y oscura secta de Los Asesinos. William Burroughs, obsesionado con éste, aseguró que la frase era una contraseña mágica: «Se dice que un iniciado que desee conocer la respuesta a cualquier pregunta -a?rmó en una de sus obras- sólo necesita repetir estas palabras cuando se duerme y la respuesta llegará en un sueño». A comienzos de los años noventa, el escritor seguía considerando a Sabbah como uno de sus mentores. Su escandalosa vida y la radicalidad de toda su obra lo habían convertido en un símbolo para rebeldes y anarquistas, llegando a ser uno de los precursores ideológicos del movimiento punk. Entonces, el mundo se rendía ante Nirvana, considerada la última gran banda de rock and roll y Kurt Cobain, su cantante, el profeta de una nueva generación.
Tras la muerte del cantante, ocultas entre cientos de páginas y cuadernos manuscritos, aparecieron cuatro hermosas fotografías en las que se le veía paseando en compañía de Burroughs.
