Synopsis

The Amadis de Gaula (Los cuatro libros del virtuoso caballero Amadís de Gaula) is the masterpiece of fictional medieval literature in Spanish and the most famous of the so-called books of chivalry, it was a formidable success throughout Europe. It was published by Garci Rodriguez de Montalvo in the early sixteenth century. Miguel de Cervantes considered this book as the father of chivalry books, and it is the work that inspired him to write Don Quixote de la Mancha. In Don Quixote, the priest and the Barber save from the burning of books, "Los cuatro Amadis de Gaula," because it is the best of all the genre of chivalry books.
