Synopsis
«El 20 de diciembre de 2015 me convertí en madre y enloquecí. […] Ese mismo día, España votaba en las primeras elecciones en las que participaba un nuevo partido […], y la esperanza del cambio planeaba sobre la jornada. Al anochecer, cuando yo contaba contracciones en la sala de dilataciones, el país contaba escaños. Y ambas cuentas confluyeron en una nueva vida para mí, porque uno de esos escaños iba a ser mío. El mismo día del nacimiento de mis hijos, me convertí en diputada del Congreso».
El que debería haber sido el día más feliz en la vida de la narradora de esta novela se convierte en el inicio de una historia de locura. La ansiedad se apodera de ella y el peso del mundo cae sobre sus hombros por partida doble: debe cuidar a sus mellizos recién nacidos y dar voz a los que han confiado en ella.
“On December 20, 2015, I became a mother and lost my mind… That very same day, Spain was holding the first elections that included a new party… and the hope for change soared over that day. By nightfall, when I was counting contractions in the delivery room, the country was counting seats. And both counts converged in a new life for me since one of those seats would be mine. The day my sons were born, I became a congresswoman.”
What was supposed to be the best day in the life of the novel’s narrator becomes the beginning of an insane story. Anxiety takes hold of her and the weight of the world falls twofold onto her shoulders: she must take care of her new-born twins and be a voice for those who put their trust in her.
