Javier Reverte

Spanish writer and journalist, Javier Reverte was born in 1944 in Madrid, where he died on October 31st, 2020. His full name is Javier Martínez Reverte.

He studied Philosophy and Journalism and was a correspondent in London, Paris, and Lisbon, among other destinations. Within the journalistic world, he held various positions, such as deputy editor of the newspaper Pueblo. He was also a radio and television scriptwriter.

 

His literary output includes novels, poetry collections, and travel books. It is in the latter genre that he has garnered his greatest popularity: his Trilogía de África (composed of El sueño de África, Vagabundo en África and Los caminos perdidos de África) earned him great acclaim. Other travel books have covered Central America, the Amazon, Greece, Turkey, and Egypt.

Aside from collections of poetry such as Metrópoli y El volcán herido, and essays such as Dios, el diablo y la aventura, he has enjoyed success with novels such as Todos los sueños del mundo o La noche detenida.

In 2010, he won the Fernando Lara Novel Prize for Barrio Cero.
