Carmen Laforet

Spanish writer Carmen Laforet was born on September 6, 1921, in Barcelona. She is considered an important figure of the post-war narrative,

along with other great authors such as Ana María Matute, Carmen Martín Gaite and Josefina Aldecoa, who managed to capture a feminine perspective of the Spain of the era.

When she was only two years old, Laforet moved with her family to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. When she came of age, the Spanish Civil War had just ended, and she moved to her grandparents' house in her hometown. There she studied Philosophy and Literature for three years, after which she went to Madrid to study Law at the Central University. However, she never finished either degree.

Her professional career began to move towards literature in 1941, when she was still studying in Madrid and her first short stories began to emerge. In 1945 she began to collaborate with Destino Magazine, a journalistic work that she expanded in 1971, also collaborating with ABC.
