Spanish writer, Antonio Muñoz Molina was born in Úbeda on January 10, 1956. A member of the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy), he is considered one of the best Spanish-language novelists of recent years.
In 1986, he published his first novel, Beatus Ille, although recognition would come with the Critics' Prize for El invierno en Lisboa (1987), a work that also received the National Literature Prize. Beltenebros (1989) brought Muñoz Molina to the general public thanks, above all, to the film adaptation by Pilar Miró in 1991. Beltenebros clearly reveals the influence of the crime genre in the author's work.
In 1991, he won the Premio Planeta for El jinete pulido (The Polish Rider), which was the definitive boost to his literary career. Six years later, Plenilunio was published, a work that was also adapted into a film in 2000 by Imanol Uribe.
The author has received various awards, including the Ícaro, the Crisol, and the Euskadi de Plata. In 2013, he received the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature in recognition of his lifetime achievement.
