Ángela Figuera Aymerich

Spanish poet Ángela Figuera Aymerich was born in Bilbao on October 30th, 1902, and died in Madrid on April 2nd, 1984.

Her poetry is representative of the rootless poetry of the First Generation of the Spanish Postwar Era.

Figuera Aymerich studied Philosophy and Literature and, after working for an Italian import company and in several schools, one of which adopted the Montessori method, obtained the chair of Language and Literature for Secondary Education in 1933.

The poet was assigned to a secondary school in Huelva and later moved to Madrid, where she was living when the Spanish Civil War broke out. Her husband, Julio Figuera, enlisted in the Republican army, and she was punished at the end of the war.

As for her poetry, which she began publishing in 1948, one of the recurring themes in her works was the feminine world, although she moved away from clichés and stereotypes.
