Ecuadorian writer Mónica Ojeda was born on May 17th, 1988, in Guayaquil. She is considered one of the most important novelists in contemporary Latin American literature.
She studied Social Communication with a minor in Literature at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil and later completed a master’s degree in creative writing at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
Her output includes short stories—Las voladoras (2020)—, poetry collections—Historia de la leche (2020)—and novels—Nefando (2016), Mandíbula (2018), and Shamanes eléctricos en la fiesta del sol (2024).
In 2017, Ojeda was included on the Bogotá39-2017 list as one of the 39 best Latin American fiction writers under 40. She has also won awards such as the Prince Claus Next Generation and the ALBA Narrative.
