Emilia Pardo Bazán

Emilia Pardo Bazán (1851-1921) is considered the greatest Spanish novelist of the 19th century and one of the most outstanding writers in our literary history.

In addition to novels and short stories, she wrote travel books, plays, poetic compositions, and numerous journalistic contributions, through which she was a constant presence in the Spain of her time.  Through her work and her life, she demonstrated women's ability to occupy the same positions in society as men, without renouncing their uniquely feminine qualities.  The Emilia Pardo Bazán website is part of the Spanish Women Writers portal, where you can consult other pages by contemporary writers.

Emilia Pardo Bazán y de la Rúa-Figueroa, Countess of Pardo Bazán (Spanish pronunciation: [e?milja ?pa?ðo βa?θan]; 16 September 1851 – 12 May 1921) was a Spanish novelist, journalist, literary critic, poet, playwright, translator, editor and professor. Her naturalism and descriptions of reality, as well as her feminist ideas embedded in her work, made her one of the most influential and best-known female writers of her era. Her ideas about women's rights in education also made her a prominent feminist figure. (Wilkipedia)
