Luis Alberto de Cuenca

Spanish philologist, writer, and poet, Luis Alberto de Cuenca is considered one of the most influential authors of contemporary Spanish poetry.

He was born in Madrid on December 29th, 1950, and studied Classical Philology at the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he earned his doctorate. De Cuenca served on José María Aznar's cabinet in the area of ??culture, has also been director of the National Library, and is a member of the CSIC (Spanish National Council of Social and Human Sciences). 

As a poet and essayist, a field in which he has always focused on the study of literature, he has been translated into more than five languages. He has received various awards and accolades, including the Castilian Poetry Critics' Prize in 1985 for La Caja de plata, the National Poetry Prize for Cuaderno de Vacaciones in 2015, and the Queen Sofía Ibero-American Poetry Award for his lifetime achievement in 2025.
