Spanish classical philologist, poet, and writer, Javier Velaza was born in Castejón in 1963.
He holds a PhD in Classical Philology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has been a professor of Latin Philology at the University of Barcelona since 2010 and, since 2017, has also been Dean of the Faculty of Philology at the same university.
Velaza specializes in Roman epigraphy, Paleo-Hispanic languages, classical literature, and text transmission. He has written books and articles on his fields of knowledge for international publishers and journals. He has also directed various research projects and organized international conferences and scientific meetings.
