Synopsis
La protagonista de Tela de sevoya, mexicana, viaja a Bulgaria en busca de la casa de sus padres, de su historia y del ladino, la lengua familiar que los judíos sefardís se llevaron consigo de la España medieval. En esta obra se entreveran anécdotas, dolorosos episodios de infancia, sueños, poemas, testimonios, así como diálogos con una abuela malencarada y hablante de aquella lengua. El lector será testigo de momentos históricos que, entre otros, remiten a la expulsión de los judíos de España en el siglo XV.
El lector se sentirá conmovido ante las descripciones que retratan la llegada de los migrantes judíos a sus nuevos países. Se trata, en suma, de una obra donde la dulzura del ladino, con su extraña ortografía, encabeza este relato a través de páginas rescatadas, transcritas, investigadas, imaginadas e incluso soñadas por la voz narrativa de esta novela, obra única en su género.
The protagonist, a Mexican woman, travels to Bulgaria in search of her parent’s house, of her history, and Ladino, the language that Sephardic Jews spoke and took with them from Medieval Spain.
In this work we see anecdotes, painful childhood memories, dreams, poems, testimonies, and conversations with a grumpy grandmother who spoke Ladino, all come together. The reader will witness important events in history that, among others, will take them back to the expulsion of the Jews in 15th Century Spain. The reader will be moved by the descriptions portraying the arrival of migrant Jews to their new countries. This is, in short, a work in which the sweetness of Ladino, with its strange spelling, heads this story through rescued pages, transcribed, researched, imagined, and even dreamt of by the narrative voice; it is certainly a unique work.
