The Kingdom of the Tsar Ivan is full of all sorts of riches, but its inhabitants cannot take pleasure in them because there is no joy. One day, the crown prince, an eleven-year old boy named Alexander, finds out from reading The Book of Nebal that in the Forest of Gems is found the sesame diamond, which means “diamond of joy.” Despite everybody saying that it only a fantasy forest, Alexander departs in search of the diamond, thus entering a region where dreams and reality, in equal parts, are blended.
