This is an experimental, intellectual, comical and very serious novel that is known for the novelty of its design: one can read the novel straight through, or follow the author's suggested order of chapters. Rayuela refers to the game of hopscotch, which the latter reading resembles in format. The novel is anchored in the 1960's and 70's, and follows an Argentine's life in Paris, and his return to South America. Rayuela was one of the seminal "Boom" literary movement's novels.
