A esmorga (Out on the Town in Spanish La Parranda), was the first narrative work in Galician published by Blanco-Amor and represents one of the most unique works in all of Galician literature. It is distinguished by the richness of the language, the sense of humor common to great part of the author’s oeuvre, and a picaresque world heretofore unknown in Galician letters. The great Portuguese philosopher Rodríguez Lapa referred to it as a strange and powerful novel, whose characters appear, strong and palpable, in old Auria, speaking a language of excellent popular flavor. “It lacks nothing in order to be considered a small masterpiece.”
