Imán was the first novel by the prolific Spanish writer Ramon J. Sender, exiled in the United States. A fictional retelling of his own experiences as a military physician during the Moroccan War, Spain's colonial war against the tribes of the Rif in the 1920's, the novel addresses the military incompetence and corruption of the Spanish army in Africa, and the atrocities of the campaign are related in a critical and realist style.
