During the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, 103 librarians, 90 men and 13 women, responded to a call for a "Convention of Librarians" to be held October 4-6 at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. That was the foundation of the American Library Association.

Very informative and interesting link offered in the REFORMA web site where we can find a list of the U.S. Public Libraries websites with information in Spanish. Established in 1971 as an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), REFORMA has actively sought to promote the development of library collections to include Spanish-language and Latino oriented materials, among other goals.
