The author was paramount in understanding the twentieth century in Spain, either through his crime novels starring Julio Gálvez or with his historical essays on the Civil War.
The journalist, editor, promoter and novelist Jorge Martínez Reverte died this Wednesday at the age of 72 at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz hospital in Madrid due to cancer, according to El País, a newspaper he collaborated with since 1980 and in which he wrote his last column two weeks ago. In 2014 he suffered a stroke that left him paralized, an experience that he immortalized in the book “Inutilmente guapo. Mi batalla contra el ictus.” (Uselessly Handsome. My battle Against the Stroke).
Born in Madrid in 1948, son of the journalist Jesús Martínez Tessier and brother of the writer and journalist Javier Reverte - who died last year - Jorge Martínez Reverte studied Physical Sciences and Journalism and it was towards this subject that he directed his steps. Throughout his professional career, he collaborated with the Pyresa agency; in magazines such as Cambio 16, Posible, Ciudadano, La Calle, Zona Abierta and Mayo, in which he served as director; on radio stations such as Radio Nacional de España, Onda Madrid and Canal Sur, and newspapers such as El País, El Sol and El Periódico de Catalunya.
