Ecuadorian writer Ernesto Carrión wins the 2017 Casa de las Américas Prize for Literature

On Thursday night, the results of the 58th Casa de las Américas Prize for Literature, one of the most iconic awards in the continent, were announced. Writers from Ecuador, Colombia, Cuba, Argentina, Peru and Brazil were the main winners. January 30th, 2017

The prize jury chose the novel Incendiamos las yeguas en la madrugada (We’ll Burn the Mares in the Morning) by the Ecuadorian writer Ernesto Carrión as the winner for its raw portrait of a society whose intention is not just to create a cross-section of the ‘stratified, violent’ urban landscape but also a dynamic story “based on an energetic, suspenseful, masterfully handled plot and realistic characters that throw light on a situation occurring across the continent.”
