20 US librarians to be part of Liber 2013 Trade Mission to Spain
As in previous years, Icex - Spain Trade & Investment, in conjunction with the Federation of Publishers of Spain and the Trade Commission of Spain in Miami, is organizing, on the occasion of the 31st edition of International Book Salon, LIBER 2013, a Trade Mission comprised of more than 20 librarians from the United States.
This substantial group of American librarians represents major public and academic libraries in the country. Great care has been taken in the selection of the librarians, after due consultations with publishers, distributors and professionals in the trade, ensuring a complete list of libraries with sizeable endowments for the purchase of materials in Spanish, and whose judgements have a notable influence on other library systems in the United States.
The International Book Fair (LIBER), to be held from October 2 to 6 in Madrid, will showcase important innovations in its structure with the twin objectives of maintaining this salon as the most important publishing event for books in Spanish and giving it the necessary impetus to meet the challenges and opportunities at this transformative juncture in the sector. Likewise, this new edition will open the fair, which to date has been the preserve of professionals, to the public at large, with the goal of making it a place where laypersons can encounter the world of literature and books.
The first of the innovations will be the fair's locale. LIBER is moving to the Fairgrounds of Casa de Campo in Madrid. This will offer a site closer to the city, with easy access provided by its excellent communications network and a group of buildings (Madrid Arena, Pabellón Satélite, and Teatro-Auditorio) with the space necessary to encompass the new activities of this novel edition of the International Book Fair. The Fair will be inaugurated on the morning of Wednesday, October 2nd, and not on Tuesday afternoon, as it traditionally had been. Chile has been selected as the country of honor for this 31st edition of LIBER.
Mision Inversa Liber 2013
Al igual que en años anteriores, el Icex - España Exportación e Inversiones, en colaboración con la Federación de Gremios de Editores de España y la Oficina Económica y Comercial de España en Miami, organiza, con ocasión de la 31ª. Edición del Salón Internacional del Libro, LIBER 2013, una Misión Comercial Inversa compuesta por más de 20 bibliotecarios de Estados Unidos.
Este nutrido grupo de bibliotecarios estadounidenses representan a las principales bibliotecas públicas y académicas del país. La cuidada selección se ha realizado en base a consultas realizadas a editores, distribuidores y profesionales del sector, conformando una completa lista de bibliotecas que disponen de una elevada capacidad de compra de materiales en español, y cuyas selecciones son de una gran influencia en otros sistemas de bibliotecas Estados Unidos.
La Feria Internacional del Libro (LIBER) que se celebrará del 2 al 6 de octubre en Madrid presentará importantes novedades en su estructura con el objetivo de mantener a este salón como el encuentro editorial más importante del libro en español, dotarle del impulso necesario para dar respuesta a los retos y oportunidades que ofrece el momento de transformación que vive el sector. Esta renovación de LIBER pretende, asimismo, abrir esta feria, que hasta ahora ha tenido un carácter profesional, al conjunto de los ciudadanos, con el objetivo de convertirla en un lugar de encuentro ciudadano con el mundo de la literatura y los libros.
La primera de las novedades será su ubicación. LIBER se traslada al Recinto Ferial de la Casa de Campo de Madrid. Con ello se busca un espacio más cercano a la ciudad, de fácil acceso gracias a su red de comunicaciones y con un conjunto de edificios (Madrid Arena, Pabellón Satélite y Teatro-Auditorio) que permiten desarrollar las nuevas actividades de esta edición renovada de la Feria Internacional del Libro. La Feria se inaugurará en la mañana del miércoles 2 y no en la tarde del martes como era tradicional. Chile será el país invitado de honor a esta 31ª edición de LIBER.
