Latina moms use social and digital media to introduce young readers to literature

A group of Latina bloggers has launched an online effort called “Latinas 4 Latino Literature” (LL4L) to increase literacy among Hispanic youth and encourage publishing houses to publish more Latino authors, ABC News/Univisión reports.

Unlike other summer reading programs, Latinas 4 Latino Literature is turning to the online community to introduce young readers and their families to literature. “This effort has its origins in a The New York Times article last December on the lack of Latino characters in young adult literature,” says ABC News/Univisión. “That story struck a nerve in the Latina blogging community, said Viviana Hurtado, a blogger with a Yale Ph.D. in literature, and one of the founders of L4LL.” Read the complete story here.
