Latino books for youth: an honest conversation at the ALA's conference

Authors, publishers, scholars, librarians, and other key players in the field of Latino literature for youth will address issues raised by "The New York Times" article about the lack of Latino(a) authors and quality books for children. The panelists will engage in a conversation about the present and future of the Latino experience in publishing for children, as part of the American Library Association's Annual Conference & Exhibition at the end of this month.

Through the different perspectives represented by the panelists, attendees will gain an understanding of the current status, issues, and trends in the publication of Latino books for youth. Presenters include: KT Horning, Director, Cooperative Children's Book Center; Jason Low, Publisher, Lee & Low Books; Teresa Mlawer, Consultant, Publishing Solutions; Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez, Associate Professor of English, University of Connecticut; Oralia Garza de Cortes, Co-Founder, Pura Belpré Award and Latino Children’s Literature Consultant; Lucia M. Gonzalez, moderator.Attendees will be part of the dialog to explore solutions and new directions in envisioning the future.

The conference will take place in Chicago, from June 27 to July 2. Latino Books for Youth: an Honest Conversation will be held Sunday, June 30th, from, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the McCormick Place Convention Center.
