Review of El cantar de Mio Cid, an anonymous medieval novel

'El Cantar de mio Cid' is a medieval epic that recounts heroic adventures loosely inspired by the last years of the life of the Castilian knight Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar el Campeador.

According to most of current intellectuals, the work was composed around 1200 A.D. On the other hand, records indicate that it is the first poetic compilation of Spanish literature.

The only thing that has been lost in this work has been the first page of the original text and two others from the interior of the codex, so it is considered that the “Cantar de mio Cid” is the only epic song that has been preserved almost completely. This, especially, because the missing content can be deduced thanks to chronic interpretations of poem to prose.
