Who is Juan Soto Ivars and why has his book won the Jovellanos International Essay Prize.

The essay "La trinchera de letras", by journalist and writer Juan Soto Ivars, has won the 30th Jovellanos International Essay Prize, awarded every year by Ediciones Nobel.

The winning work is an essay that reflects on what the author calls "cultural battle", a process of social division that has made its way in the West, putting at risk the freedom of knowledge itself.

The jury of the Jovellanos 2024 International Essay Prize has chosen this winning work among the 262 submitted for this year's edition, from twenty-five different countries. Promoted by Ediciones Nobel, the award is supported by the City Council of Gijón and Caja Rural de Asturias. Given its endowment of 9,000 euros, it is one of the most prestigious in this category in the Spanish language.
