The Cervantes Institute, Lawrence Wilkins Founder Award for its promotion of Spanish and Hispanic cultures in the United States.

The Cervantes Institute has been awarded by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) with the Lawrence Wilkins Founder's Award, the highest recognition granted by this institution founded in 1917.

The award, granted unanimously by the jury, recognizes people and institutions with a long and fruitful collaboration with said association that have played a fundamental role in its work to improve and strengthen the teaching of Spanish in the United States.

The AATSP thus recognizes the important support of the Cervantes Institute in the success of the shared mission: to promote the training of Spanish teachers at all levels and the knowledge of the Hispanic heritage in the United States through the study of the Spanish language and of Hispanic cultures. In the words of its director, Maria Carreira, the Cervantes Institute perfectly represents the spirit of the award.

The AATSP has congratulated the Cervantes Institute for its "excellent" academic and cultural programs, which include a wide range of training options for schools, universities and companies. It also recognizes their contribution to the professional development of Spanish teachers, their training and their accreditation.
