The Argentine Gabriela Cabezón Cámara wins the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize for Literature in the Spanish language with 'Las niñas del naranjel'

The Ciutat de Barcelona Awards, awarded by the Barcelona City Council, aims to recognize artistic and cultural creations linked to the city.

The juries of these distinctions have announced their verdicts of the 2023 Ciutat de Barcelona Awards in the Agustí Duran and Sanpere categories of Essay, Humanities and History of Barcelona; Literature in the Catalan language; Translation to the Catalan language, and Literature in the Spanish language.

The jury made up of Esther Zarraluki (president), Ana María Iglesia Pagnotta, Isabel Sucunza, Pablo Martín Sánchez and Diego Falconí, has decided by majority to award the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize for Literature in the Spanish language to the work Las niñas del naranjel, (Random House , 2023), by Gabriela Cabezón Cámara 'for presenting the complexity of colonial and gender discourse and for its ability to combine different traditions, cultures and languages'. In addition, they have highlighted the bold revisiting of a controversial historical figure and the risky, poetic and wild prose.
