Jonathan Botas de Lorenzo and Carmen Berasategui, founders of Trampa Ediciones Publishing

Coincidences are sometimes the motor that turns our lives in the right direction. About four years ago, Carmen Berastegui ran into Jonathan Botas de Lorenzo in Venezuela.

Sometime after this chance meeting consecuence of the passion both share for travel, they met again.  However, this time turned into an important change for Berastegui, who until now was a successful publisher of medical books.  Botas de Lorenzo proposed she leave behind the clínical books and start a new project, also in the publishing industry but more literary.

That is how Trampa Ediciones was founded, a label with an exquisite catalog that reflects the tastes and personalities of its founders. “We have a romantic visión, we consider each book our child, putting all our hopes, talents and hearts into each one,” explains Berasategui, who is also in charge of the visual arts and poetry festival, NUDO (KNOT).  A poet herself, her first book of poems, “Where Birds Glide,” was published by Piezas Azules Publishing in the autum of 2019.

Her decision of publishing six books a year, at the rate of one every two months, “is as much personal as political: personal, because we do it in our free time, and political because we advocate a sensible rhythm, that guarantees a special care and dedication to each book.” They “try to avoid falling into a grinding machine, so characteristic of the industry nowdays.”
