Stars fill the Hay Festival in Segovia to bring a shout-out to the planet.

The event organizer, Premio Princesa de Asturias (Princess of Asturias Award), presents a program focused on sustainability and a consideration on the uncertainty of the near future.

“We have thought on what is left after everything is gone, in what we have to build, in the humanity we have left, the planet we have left, the Europe we have left.  We celebrate life, and more than ever the need to work together to build a sustainable world.” This is how Sheila Cremaschi, President of the Hay Festival of Segovia, sums it up for El País.  The Festival will take place September 17-20, and in those four days, architects, philosophers, artists and writers will get together in order to start a dialog about the future of our planet.

Undoubtedly, the Coronavirus will be prominent in the issues as well as the organization, but focusing on what we have left and not on what has been lost.  Consequently, there will be no discussions on Covid-19 and its effects.

At a time when publishers are reluctant to promote books written by famous foreign authors because of the complications in travel between countries, the Hay Festival will count with the presence of invitees from all over the world.  “We have only left out people from the U.S. and India.”
