This is what the Book Fair will be like: Desinfecting of booths twice a day and fever-testing measures.

The Madrid Book Fair strives to limit crowding by taking “extreme social distancing,” and a redesign of the fair in order to limit space. There are still five months before the October celebration of the Madrid Bookfair.

However, the fair organization is already working to adapt to the new realities created by the Corona virus.  Some of the safety measures considered by the organization are the “sanitizing of halls and booths twice a day, temperature-checking stations, access and crowd control and extreme social distancing.” These measures were stated in a notice sent to all participants, bookstores and publishers.

These prevention measures contrast with the uncertainty and the scarce information still surrounding the celebrations of Sant Jordi (the celebration of books and roses) in Barcelona on July 23, which, in comparison is approximately only two and a half months away.

The Board of the “October Fair” (that is the new name of the fair) is working with two different scenarios “very realistic and probable.”  On one side is the one we are considering today, “The Safe Fair,” which will include a series of “safety protocols” including re-designing of spaces in order to limit crowds.
