A stack of hidden books at the bottom of the library

The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México has rescued from oblivion works from female Iberoamerican writers who were well-known in their time.

The works by Mexican writer Luisa Josefina Hernández are almost forgotten.  The writer, who was born in 1928, is recognized for her plays, but few remember her novels.  One of them received the award, Xavier Villaurrutia in 1982.  

Recently, Ave Barrera, another Mexican writer, was charged with reading from Hernández’s book, “El lugar donde crece la hierba” (The place where the grass grows), but quickly learned that it would not be easy to find the book.  Finally it was discovered at the bottom of a stack in a library.  She was surprised to see that no one had ever seen or leaf through the book. 

“The binding of the book had been crystalized, the sepia-colored pages were bound together and formed a block and the library loan card was blank.  No one had ever checked-out this book.
