Crime writer Antonio Lozano, creator of Inspector García Gago dies

The Canarian writer of crime novels and creator of Inspector García Gago has died at 62 years of age, reports his agency Dos Passos.

Born in Tangier in 1956, he was a leading figure in cultural promotion in the Canary Islands, where he lived. It was in Agüimes that he acted as culture chief and organizer of the Festival del Sur and the Cuenta storytelling festival. His writing debut, the novel Harraga (Zoela, 2002) received the 1st Novelpol Prize for the best crime novel published in Spain and a special mention from the jury of the Silverio Cañada Memorial Prize 2003 for the best crime novel, awarded at Gijón’s Semana Negra.
