The jury decided to award the author and his work "for his mastery in the use of a poetic language that is nourished by the alliteration of symbolist echoes and by nonsense humor, absurdity, Rodarian fantasy, and echoes of Basque oral tradition." The award is granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports to distinguish a work by a Spanish author, written in any of the official national languages, ??and published in our country during the past year of 2017. The economic endowment is worth 20,000 euros. The award-winning work, originally written in Basque and published by the Navarre publishing house Cenlit/Denonartean, has been translated into Catalan, Galician, and Spanish.
