Spanish Poet Luis García Montero, New Director of the Instituto Cervantes

After his appointment on Friday July 20th at the Council of Ministers, admitted in an interview with Europa Press that financing will be one of his main focus points, claiming that “money is necessary to get anything done.”

Luis García Montero: “I am not a government partisan.”

 “That’s the truth, after many years of university one realizes that there’s nothing more poetic than accounts and numbers. You need money to do things, and securing investments in culture is one of the greatest challenges,” observed the Grenadian writer. García Montero explained that he got the call from the Government “a few days ago” and that he asked for time to consult with his family. After saying yes and “gladly accepting” the post, it was finally made official on Thursday. “It’s a position that I undertake with great responsibility and awareness for the demands of the job,” he added.
