Ibero-American Yearbook on Children and Young Adults Book 2017

The SM Foundation has just published the new edition 2017 of its Ibero-American Yearbook on Children's and Young Adult Book. As a novelty, also included for the first time is the United States, and there is a review of the sector in Ecuador covering the last twenty-five years.

In the section corresponding to Spain, prepared by Victoria Fernández and Jesus Marchamalo, the 2017 yearbook shows the trends in children's and young adult's literature.

One of the most interesting conclusions is the consolidation in the picture book market, as well as the comic and the graphic novel, which attract readers without a specific age.Fantasy continues its success, with new Spanish authors comprising a generational relay, with publications endorsed by cinematographic successes and great media cover. Also successful is the realist novel covering very topical issues, such as harassment or integration. Poetry and theater survive, since there are some initiatives that keep them alive.

This study makes it clear that the publishing industry, and in particular the children's and young adult's book sector, has weathered the worst years of the crisis, and is back in 2017 with two pending subjects: promoting reading and the training of new readers.
