The author constructs a metaliterary artifact to unravel an old and a new enigma in her latest novel.
When you delve into the work of Leticia Sánchez Ruiz (Oviedo, 1980), it's inevitable to think that her mind is quite similar to the Gabinete de maravillas of Alana Calume, the protagonist of her latest novel.
Wandering through her ideas and memories must be similar to entering the home and business of the peddler: a universe in which we can find everything from buffalo-hide boxing gloves to a siren-shaped beer mug, hotel bells, and brass kaleidoscopes. A space filled with objects, memories, and moments that seem unrelated until the author manages to make them fit together.
"El club de la niebla" poses two seemingly unrelated enigmas. On the one hand, the disappearance of Chilean writer Gabriel Vargas Montseny, which occurred 20 years ago during a visit to Oviedo for the Third Latin American Meetings on Fact and Fiction. After meeting with members of the Club de la Niebla, a local literary gathering, the author vanished without a trace.
