La soledad del perro is the sixth installment in the series starring Inspector Bartolomé Monfort, set in the province of Castellón. This new case features the exhibition of Goya's famous painting, "Perro semihundido," being held at the Casino Real in Castellón. This exhibition has been made possible thanks to businessman Carlos Sorlí, who mysteriously disappears the same day the painting arrives in Castellón. From this moment on, Inspector Monfort and his colleagues spring into action to try to solve the mystery and all the deaths and enigmas surrounding this famous painting.
Those of us who are already seasoned readers of this saga are always eager for the arrival of a new installment and to reunite with Monfort. Monfort isn't just any police officer; he's an intelligent, quick-witted man who misses nothing and has that innate sense of smell for finding the necessary clues to solve cases, no matter how complex they may seem. This is a detective novel, but one that doesn't follow established canons, as you won't find typical police procedures here; only the skillful work of Monfort, Redó, and the entire team counts to unravel a rather complex plot.
The twists and turns that appear keep us on our toes, keep us asking questions about what's happening, and keep us eager to continue reading until we reach the end of the story, where all our doubts will be resolved. Meanwhile, the novel follows the usual structure of the saga, where a plot from the past is always intertwined with the present. Both are read in parallel and converge at one point, allowing readers to guess where the two stories meet.
