Winner of the Alfaguara Prize for the Novel in 2008, this novel takes inspiration of a real life female midget, who was born in provincial Cuba and reached the stages of New York in the 19th century and became a star, only to later disappear mysteriously. An excellent exercise of style and well-captured atmosphere.
