Chilean writer Antonio Skarmeta depicts in his novel Burning Patience, later put into screen to a successful movie, The Postman, the friendship between Chile's national poet and Nobel Laureate Pablo Neruda, exiled on Isla Negra, with Mario Jiménez, a young postman whose only duty is to deliver the famous author’s mail. Skarmeta sets the story during President Salvador Allende’s administration drawing parallels between Mario's private life and romantic involvement with beautiful Beatriz, and the public turbulence and violence that gradually overtakes Chile.
