Using the English short story tradition as a point of departure, Julio Cortázar—along with Jorge Luis Borges—made the short story in Spanish a very serious matter, literarily speaking. The literary innovation begun by Cortázar in both traditional time and the linear recitation of a story are ruptured, started a revolution which has become widely accepted and used in literature in Spanish ever since.
