The UNE publishers that are currently applying this tool are the publishers of the universities of Barcelona, ??Burgos, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, La Rioja, Oberta de Catalunya (Fundació Universitat Oberta Catalunya), Oviedo, Seville, the Basque Country, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Valencia and Zaragoza. In Spain as a whole, 87,117 publications from 333 publishers have this fingerprint and are tracked on the Internet.
The creation of this digital footprint involves the conversion, by CEDRO and with the authorization of the rights holders, of their publications into sequences of numbers, letters and symbols and stores the encrypted content in a secure library. In this way, the entity can detect illicit copies of editorial works in order to remove them, scanning the web, messaging services and social networks in search of matches.
