Juan Muñoz, author of the sagas of Fray Perico and El Pirata Garrapata, dies at the age of 93

The writer Juan Muñoz Martín has died at the age of 93, as announced by his family on his Twitter account.

“Dear readers and students of Juan Muñoz, we sadly announce his death. His books will always make us remember the best moments of our childhood, laughing at his crazy stories.  We want new readers to discover him. We remember him as happy,” reads the message. The Madrid writer, who was also a Literature teacher, managed to get thousands of children of various generations hooked on reading with 'Fray Perico y su borrico', with which he won the El Barco de Vapor award in 1979. ‘Fray Perico y su borrico’ had nine volumes and ‘El pirata garrapata’ had sixteen titles.  In addition, he wrote other stories such as ‘Baldomero el pistolero’ and ‘El corsario Macario en la isla de los dinosaurios.’
