The Cervantes Institute presents its yearbook, “El Español en el mundo 2022”

Spanish continues to grow and is close to 500 million native speakers, according to the 2022 yearbook of the Cervantes Institute.

One of the main objectives of El español en el mundo Yearbook of the Cervantes Institute, is to draw an all-around image of the international presence of the Spanish language and culture.

“El Español en el mundo” is the main academic publication of the Cervantes Institute. Every year, the main data on the Spanish language in the world is updated and relevant aspects of the international presence of Hispanic culture are studied. The presentation ceremony of this yearbook, which was held at the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in Madrid on October 26th, 2022, can be seen on the YouTube channel of the Cervantes Institute.

This edition also offers a reflection on the relationship between language and artificial intelligence: the advantages that robotics and AI can bring us in the field of language teaching and assessment are undeniable (collaborative learning systems, tutoring, automatic evaluation, prevention of bullying, etc.), although it also carries some risks if it is not used well (addictions, misinformation, bias, lack of traceability of some algorithm processes, invasion of privacy, manipulation, etc. ).
