The distinguished Cuban poet, Fina García-Marruz, dies at the age of 99

She was one of the members of the group of Cuban intellectuals, 'Orígenes,' and won the 2011 Reina Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry.

The Cuban poet, essayist and researcher, Fina García-Marruz Badía (Havana, 1923), a prominent figure in Latin American literature, has died at the age of 99 in her hometown, as reported by the Cuban cultural institution Casa de las Américas.

García-Marruz, "one of the most extraordinary poetic voices in Latin American literature," as the aforementioned institution has pointed out, touched on different genres in her work and managed to have her poetry translated into several languages.

She also achieved important literary awards with her work.   Among them, the National Prize for Literature stands out, which she received in 1990, becoming the second woman to receive the Cuban award.
