The importance of the Spanish language in the world is growing

Spanish, as a foreign language, has become popular in recent years according to Professor María de la Luz Munguía Castillo, coordinator of the language at the Centro de Enseñanza para Extranjeros (CEPE) ,

(Center for Teaching Foreigners) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She noted that demand has increased, especially when looking at the growth of Asian students at CEPE.

Figures from the publication Ethnologue have placed Spanish as the second mother tongue by number of speakers, with approximately 442 million people scattered in 31 countries, only surpassed by Chinese with 1,299 million native speakers.
