The stability and resistance of the small and medium-sized bookstore is one of the main conclusions drawn from the Map of Libraries 2021, an instrument for analyzing bookstores operating in Spain.

This can be seen by the wide implementation of bookstores in the national territory (an average of 6.8 establishments per 100,000 inhabitants), as well as by the high number of years of experience (almost half of the bookstores have been operating more than four decades).

The promotion of permanent employment, a large presence of women in the business (59.7%), as well as the growth in positioning in the online market (38.9% of independent bookstores used the online channel in the last two years, when in 2019 the index was 25.8%) is another data that represents a positive evolution compared to previous studies.
