“El forat” (The Hole) by Jordi Amor wins the 2016 Documenta Prize

“Jordi Amor (Sant Just Desvern, 1982) has won the 27th Documenta Prize organized by the Documenta bookshop and L’Altra Editorial.

The novel narrates the desolation and adventures of a young man who lives on the periphery of Barcelona, the void, the lack of communication and the sadness of life distilling the sense of bitterness and hopelessness without succumbing to self-pity, the publisher says.”

L'Altra Editorial

PUBLISHING HOUSE  /  SPAIN (CATALAN)

Publishing language: Catalan

Publishing categories: Fiction, Narrative Fiction, Literary Fiction, Commercial Fiction

L’Atra Editorial is a young independent Catalan publishing house born in February 2014. We have James Salter, Lionel Shriver, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Anne Tyler, Shirley Jackson, Daniel Galera, Hilary Mantel and Alissa Ganieva in our catalogue so far, and we are opened to both established and new voices.

We publish 10 to 15 titles per year from both Catalan and foreign authors, and while we will focus mainly on contemporary modern fiction, we pursue to publish the most influential and important non-fiction titles as well.

L'Altra Editorial is born with the literary standards of a small publishing house and the commercial ambition of the bigger ones: within a market divided drastically between small labels who publish very few titles and have small commercial drive and much bigger publishing houses who produce a huge amount of books per year and for which the literary always comes after the commercial, L’Altra aims to fill the gap in the Catalan Market for literary commercial books.

L’Altra wants to celebrate literature and books, with enthusiasm and no inhibitions, avoiding solemnity and elitism and looking to bring reading back into fashion, reminding our readers and booksellers and journalists that good books are immortal.
